Trnovačko Lake, the pearl of Mount Maglić, is unique for its perfect heart-shaped shape, which makes it one of the most recognizable natural symbols of Montenegro. Located on the territory of the municipality of Plužine, at an altitude of 1517 meters, this glacial lake is surrounded by some of the highest and harshest peaks of the Balkans, including Maglić, Volujak and Bioč, which tower over its blue-green surface like giant guardians.
What makes this lake special is not only its fascinating geometry, but also the complete absence of any high-stemmed vegetation in its immediate surroundings, which creates the impression that you are in another, mythical world. The water is extremely clear and transparent to the very bottom, and in the summer months its temperature reaches levels that allow for refreshment, making it a favorite destination for mountaineers who, after a day-long climb, find salvation in its cold depths. Trnovacko Lake cannot be reached by vehicle; it requires effort, whether approached from the direction of Prijevor or through the valley of Sušica, which helped it to preserve its authenticity and peace. The surrounding meadows are covered with lush mountain flowers during June and July, and the silence that reigns in this area is broken only by the sound of the mountain wind or the voices of rare visitors camping on the shore. It is this feeling of isolation, in the embrace of high rocks, that gives this lake a note of spiritual refuge. A visit to Trnovacko Lake is not just a trip to nature, but an encounter with one of the most beautiful landscapes that the municipality of Plužine has to offer, reminding us of the power of nature that has patiently carved this unique "stone ring" around the clear, heart-shaped water over the centuries.
