About the activity

Rafting in Montenegro is not just an ordinary trip, but a real encounter with the raw power of nature. It is an experience in which adrenaline, cold mountain water, the smell of the forest, high canyon rocks and the feeling of complete escape from the daily rhythm alternate. Thanks to the incredible wealth of fast mountain flows, Montenegro offers several top locations for this adventure, each of which carries a special energy and degree of excitement.

Tara River – The undisputed queen of rafting The Tara Canyon, as the deepest in Europe, is considered one of the most impressive natural areas in the world, which makes this river the most recognizable and most sought-after rafting destination. Šćepan Polje and Brštanovica: This is the most popular and exciting section (about 18 km long). It perfectly combines exciting rapids, natural springs, waterfalls and landscapes that cannot be seen from the road. On Šćepan Polje, the Tara joins the Beer and forms the Drina, and here is the largest concentration of rafting camps. Đurđevića Tara: The starting point for longer, multi-day rafting adventures that pass through the entire national park, providing a deeper experience of the canyon and untouched nature. Lim River – From a calm flow to extreme thrills, the Lim River offers an extremely diverse experience and attracts both recreational and professionals, especially during the traditional Lim Regatta.

Plav and Andrijevica: The upper reaches of the Lim are quieter and ideal for more relaxed routes, enjoying the scenery and family outings.

Berane and Bijelo Polje (Tifran Gorge): For lovers of extreme adrenaline, the section through the Tifran Gorge near Berane is one of the biggest challenges in the Balkans. These rapids require maximum concentration and experienced crews.

Morača River – Wild adrenaline near the capital Morača is fast, unpredictable and offers a completely different perspective of the Montenegrin karst. Due to the specific terrain and fluctuations in water levels, rafting on the Moraca River is reserved for periods when conditions are optimal. Platija Canyon: Rafting through this deep and steep canyon brings incredible scenes of vertical rocks and mighty beeches. Due to its wildness and speed, Morača is a section that guarantees a high level of adrenaline.

Piva River – Emerald Peace at the Foot of the Dams Although Piva is today recognizable for its calm and beautiful lake, its remaining river course offers a specific rafting experience. Sastavci (Šćepan Polje): The final contact of Piva with Tara is used for shorter, but visually impressive routes. The beer is known for its incredible emerald color and extremely cold water, which provides the perfect refreshment during the hot summer months.

When to go rafting and who is it for? The dynamics of the adventure directly depends on the season and the choice of the river: In spring (April–May): Melting snow from the mountains raises the water level of all rivers. Then rafting is maximally intense, fast and adrenaline-pumping, which attracts more experienced adventurers. During the summer (June–September): The water level decreases, and rivers such as Tara become calmer. It is an ideal period for families, team-building, relaxed swimming, photography and enjoying the authentic atmosphere of rafting camps with homemade food and conversations with licensed guides.
