Public Institution "Zahumlje" and Nikšić Theatre – Living Theatre and Tradition Public Institution "Zahumlje" Located in the very center of the city, the Public Institution "Zahumlje" is one of the oldest, most influential and most important cultural institutions in Montenegro. It was founded in 1898 on the initiative of Nikšić's progressive youth and intellectuals, originally as a singing society. Over more than a century and a quarter of its uninterrupted existence, over 8,000 members of all ages have passed through Zahumlje, and the society has produced some of the greatest artists of Montenegro and the former Yugoslavia (including the legendary actor Veljko Mandić).
