Andrijevica is a small municipality in the northeast of Montenegro, located in the picturesque valley of the Lim River and surrounded by the mighty mountain massifs of Komovo and Prokletije. Although it is a smaller municipality in terms of territory and population, this area has an extremely rich cultural life and history that deeply preserves the tradition, customs and identity of Gornji Vasojevići. "Mihailo Lalić" Center for Culture and Sports The main cultural institution in the city is the Center for Culture and Sports, which proudly bears the name of one of the greatest Montenegrin and Yugoslav writers, academician Mihailo Lalić, born in the nearby village of Trepča. Located in the very center of the city, this center is the focal point of social life through the organization of concerts, art exhibitions, theater performances and film screenings. The central events in the city are the "Days of Culture and Sports" (formerly known as Andrijevic Culture Days), which are traditionally held in July on the occasion of the Municipality Day, gathering artists, writers and athletes from all over the country. Andrijevica National Library The National Library, an institution with a fascinating history, operates within the Center for Culture. It was founded in 1892 as the first reading room in this part of Montenegro, under the patronage of Prince Mirko. An interesting historical fact says that on the day of its foundation, 40 members enrolled in it, among which 12 were illiterate, which testifies to the age-old desire of the people of this region for education. Today, the library has a rich collection of books, serves as an educational support for local pupils and students, and regularly organizes literary evenings and promotions of prominent authors. The historical heart of the city: Memorial Park "Knjaževac" The cultural and historical image of Andrijevica cannot be imagined without the memorial park Knjaževac, which is located at the very entrance to the city and represents a kind of outdoor historical lesson. Church of Saint Michael the Archangel: This complex is dominated by the cathedral church built in 1887. The foundation stone was laid by Prince Nikola himself, and all the Vasojevićs participated in its construction — every able-bodied man undertook to bring one stone from the other side of Lim so that the shrine could be erected. Historical monuments: In the park there are monumental memorials to fighters and heroes who died in the Balkans, the First and Second World Wars. Botanical garden: Knjaževac is also a beautiful park with over 30 species of trees, where besides native pines and lindens, exotic species such as Pančić's spruce and giant sequoia also grow. Native home and heritage in Kralji In the picturesque village of Kralje, not far from Andrijevica, there is the Native House — a unique space where the ethnographic treasures of this region are kept. It exhibits old tools, authentic folk costumes, photographs and historical documents that vividly depict how people used to survive and live in mountainous areas. A large part of the exhibits were donated by the locals themselves, which gives this space a special warmth and authenticity. In the immediate vicinity of the village there is also the old Royal Gunpowder Mill from 1899, which served the needs of the Vasojević army, and was later transformed into one of the first village schools. All these institutions, preserved historical sites and living manifestations successfully intertwine the rich past and modern life of Andrijevica. It is therefore an ideal destination for travelers who, in addition to peace and mountain air, are looking for the spiritual and cultural identity of the Montenegrin north.
