Boka Kotorska is preparing for one of its most beautiful and sacred customs. On Wednesday, July 22, 2026, the traditional "Fašinada" will take place in Perast - an age-old ritual that represents the very core of the intangible cultural heritage and maritime identity of Montenegro.
The central part of this unique manifestation begins at dusk, when a procession of boats connected and decorated with green branches sets off from the coast of Peraška towards the island of Gospa od Škrpjela. During this ritual, which has been repeated without interruption for more than 570 years, the locals transport stones in boats and symbolically pile them around the rock on which the sanctuary rests, thus restoring the foundations of the artificial island. Due to its incredible age and continuity, Fašinada was officially included in the intangible cultural heritage of Montenegro in 2013. Sails in honor of tradition: Fashinada Cup The ancient custom is complemented in the most beautiful way by the sports tradition on the water. During the July evening, the participants of the traditional sailing regatta "Fashinada Cup" will also sail through the bay, whose white sails will follow the procession of boats and create a magnificent visual spectacle on the blue surface of Boka. Tips for visitors: Location and time: The waterfront in Perast, in the early evening and during sunset. Admission: Completely free for all spectators. Recommendation: We advise visitors to arrive at the Peraš waterfront a little earlier, before sunset, in order to take the best spots on the shore, enjoy the unique evening light and watch the gathering and formation of the festive procession of boats. To follow this unique historical spectacle from the shore, you don't need tickets or advance notice - it's enough just to surrender to the magic and tradition that still lives in the heart of Boca.
