Rožaje is a city in the extreme northeast of Montenegro, located at the foot of the Hajla mountain and surrounded by dense forests, mountainous areas and the Ibar river. Noon through the "Native Museum of Ganića Kula" The Ganića Tower is one of the most recognizable symbols of the town of Rožaj and represents an authentic monument of traditional Balkan and Ottoman architecture in eastern Montenegro. It is also on the official coat of arms of the municipality of Rožaje. This is one of the most important sights of Rožaj, built in 1797 at the foot of the Ganić karst, on the left bank of the Ibar river. It was built by the imperial vizier for the needs of the army, as evidenced by the loopholes on the building. After the vizier's departure, the tower was bought by the brothers Selim and Alija Ganić, after whom it was named and served as a residential and defensive area for their family. The lower part of the tower is made of massive stone with walls as thick as 1.2 meters, while the upper floor (chardak) is built of wood (beech logs) and was used for living. Today, it houses a local museum that preserves an extremely rich collection that shows the life, culture of housing, customs and crafts of the Rožaj region from the 18th to the 20th century. The tower is an indispensable point of every tour of Rožaj. Afternoon walk by the river Ibar The river Ibar flows through the city, which additionally contributes to the pleasant atmosphere of Rožaj. A walk along the Ibar provides a completely different experience depending on the location, because this river flows through Montenegro, Serbia and Kosovo. The most famous and accessible hiking trails are located in Rožaje (near the spring).
