The ice cave, located in the heart of the Durmitor massif, represents one of the most fascinating natural phenomena of the national park.
It is located at a height of more than 2,000 meters above sea level, not far from the top of Obla Glava, and it can only be reached by hiking trails, which makes it the right destination for true lovers of Durmitor's wilderness. What makes this cave unique is its microclimate, which allows snow and ice to remain throughout the year, regardless of the high summer temperatures on the surface.
The interior of the cave is decorated with spectacular ice figures, stalactites and stalagmites, which are formed by dripping water and its immediate freezing. These crystalline forms create an ambiance that seems like something from a fairy tale, turning the cave into a natural "ice hall". For mountaineers who conquer the peaks of Durmitor, the Ice Cave is not only a place to rest, but also a place to admire the cruelty and beauty of nature. Due to the low temperatures in the cave itself, even during the hottest days of July, visitors should be adequately equipped with warmer clothes and appropriate hiking shoes. The approach to the cave is steep and requires good fitness, but the reward in the form of a view of the frozen sculptures and the peace of the mountain height makes this climb one of the most memorable experiences on Durmitor. As a protected natural asset, this location requires a high degree of responsibility from visitors in order to preserve its fragile icy beauty for generations to come.
